Texturing

Image
This is the fully textured model of my Captain America model. Now honestly I am not too happy with how this turned out. I imagined and originally planned for it to be better however I was not able to fulfill that hope. I had planned to use Adobe Photoshop in order to hep make the textures. Maya has a feature called UV wrapping which at its base level unwraps your 3-dimensional model and displays all the faces onto a 2-dimensional plane. You can then export the unwrapping to a photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop where you then paint on each and all of the faces. It gives you the option for one face to have multiple colors displayed on it and even feature gradients. Once you're finished painting the unwrapping, you can then send it back to Maya which it will then display the textures onto your £-dimensional model. Now when I went to use UV unwrapping, it did work I was able to unwrap my model. But for some reason I could not export the image. It would not even allow me t...

Modelling - Waist Belt And Finished Model

Image
The final which needed to be modeled was the waist belt. This wasn't too hard to model. I simply created one of the packs first by creating a cuboid and then extruding the front flap bit out. I then attached a small cylinder to the front in order to create the button. Once the pack was done, it was simply copied and pasted multiple times. They were then placed next to each other at angles. The belt was made by creating a plane bending it a bit and then I attached the bags to it. The center of he front plane was extruded out a bit to create the buckle and then the whole thing was scaled to fit the rest of the model. This is my finished model. Overall I am very happy with how it has turned out. I personally believe that it is some of my current best modelling work. I am especially pleased with it general body shape of it as well as some of the small details such as waist belt and the wings on the head. However there are some parts of it which I think with more time, I could...

Modelling - Legs and Head

Image
Now that the arm and torso was done, work on the legs could begin. Once again I was just going to make one of the legs and then it would be mirrored over with the other body parts. To make the leg it mainly just involved extruding downwards and then adding and stretching/squishing edge loops to get the shape of the leg and foot. The base of the foot was made by first extruding it all downwards and then extruding the center upwards at a slight angle. Once the leg was done the mirror tool was used to mirror the half I built to the other side and then the two halves were joined together. Before I could mirror it though I went and made sure that all of the points on the center axis were in line so that when I would mirror and join them there wouldn't be any issues. Then it was time to build the head. I started by you extruding the top of the model upwards and then just used the extrude and edge loop tools to mold the head shape into the right shape. The ears were made by ex...

Modelling Captain America - Torso and Arms

Image
To start off with modeling Captain America, I decided it would be best if I built one half of the body and then mirror it over so that the sides would be almost identical. I could then alter little parts of the sides later. I also decided that it would be beneficial if I was to include the star in the center of the chest in the model and not just as a texture. I modeled the torso first. It started off as a simple cylinder which I stretched vertically to get the right height of the torso. I then used the add edge loop tool to fill the cylinder with loads of edge loops. These were then stretched horizontally in order to create the shape and muscle structure of the torso. Overall I am really happy with the end shape of my torso as I feel like it looks bulky and the type of body shape that Captain America would have. After modeling the torso I focussed on designing the arm. I started the arm by moving the vertexes at the shoulder region into a decent oval sh...

3x Reference Clips

Clip 1: Friends Joey turkey scare https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qen-EEkdiYU This clip is from an episode of Friends and features Joey getting scared by Monica. This occurs when Monica surprises Joey by appearing in front of him with a turkey on her head. His reaction is beautiful as he is truly horrified and even runs out of the room. I think it would be good to replicate his reaction with my model as it is not every day that you see Captain America so horrified. I feel it would be slightly challenging as all of Joey’s limbs are moving differently at all times and they are moving quickly.  There are a few issues with the clip such as the quality of it is a little shoddy and blurry. Also not all of Joey’s limbs are on camera at all times meaning I would have to assume quite a few limb positions at some points. Finally the clip is also really short so my animation would only be 3-4 seconds long which might not be enough. Clip 2: Carlton dance https://www.youtube.com/wat...
