3x Reference Clips

Clip 1: Friends Joey turkey scare
This clip is from an episode of Friends and features Joey getting scared by Monica. This occurs when Monica surprises Joey by appearing in front of him with a turkey on her head. His reaction is beautiful as he is truly horrified and even runs out of the room. I think it would be good to replicate his reaction with my model as it is not every day that you see Captain America so horrified. I feel it would be slightly challenging as all of Joey’s limbs are moving differently at all times and they are moving quickly.  There are a few issues with the clip such as the quality of it is a little shoddy and blurry. Also not all of Joey’s limbs are on camera at all times meaning I would have to assume quite a few limb positions at some points. Finally the clip is also really short so my animation would only be 3-4 seconds long which might not be enough.

Clip 2: Carlton dance
This clip is from an episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Air and features the Will and Carlton performing an unintentionally funny dance in order to win $10000. The entire clip lasts just over a minute and a half though I will only be using a bit of it. I will choose about 10 seconds of the actual dance where the characters are still dancing separately and not the part when one of them starts swinging the other around before throwing him through the air. I think it would be good to model this as the dance is to music which means I could use the music to help apply key frames. Plus it would be funny to watch Captain America dance like this. The main/only issue with this as far as I can tell is that the clip is a little blurry but I can easily work with this.

Clip 3: Freestyle dance teacher
This final clip is of a freestyle dance teacher showing off her freestyle dance moves. The clip actually went viral on the internet as it is comedic even though I don’t think it is meant to be. This would be a good clip to replicate as it involves a lot of hand and body movements. One issue is that you can’t see her legs so I would have assume what they were doing. Also the clip is perhaps a bit too short or at least the actual dancing part is.

Comments

  1. After reading your evaluations of all 3 clips I can see why you want to consider them for your reference material for your animation. You went though each of the clips pointing out the movement of the characters and what you think would be challenging. On top of that you looked into is going to hard and/or an obstacle in your attempt to replicate. You have also summarized well what the clips are about so who ever reads the evaluation can understand why you liked the clips and why you want to use them. With the Friends clip you talked about how it wasn't the best reference clip because of the resolution of clip and the length which is good because it allows the reader to understand what you know are the bad sides. What I think on the clip is that you may find it very hard to make up 6-7 seconds of extra footage that you don't have.

In conclusions your points are concise and to the point in what you want them for. You looked at each clip from a positive and a negative angle allowing you to truly understand how hard each clip is to replicate and you justified your points.

  2. Your clips are good, you have pointed out the positives and negatives of each clip well and how you would animated them. You have also pointed out the difficulties such as bad resolution or not full body in frame.

You have clearly shown your decision and evaluation process for each clip giving any readers a good insight into your process.
